What Is BIMI and Why Does It Matter?
Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) is an email standard that enables organisations to display their official verified brand logos beside authenticated emails in supported inboxes (such as Apple Mail, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail).
BIMI Prerequisites
Mail providers will only display your BIMI logo if strict security criteria are met:
-
DMARC Enforcement: Your domain must have a DMARC policy set to
p=quarantineorp=rejectwithpct=100. Domains withp=noneare ineligible for BIMI. - SPF & DKIM Alignment: 100% of sending sources must pass cryptographic alignment.
- BIMI SVG Tiny-PS Format: The brand logo must be formatted strictly in SVG Tiny Portable/Secure (Tiny-PS) format, square aspect ratio, with no embedded scripts or external references.
- Verified Mark Certificate (VMC): Providers like Gmail and Apple require a VMC issued by an authorised Certificate Authority to verify trademark ownership.
